Workshops

Workshops

Education and community development initiatives are an important part of the AfrofestSA program, with workshops and information sessions all offered for free.

Sessions relating to indigenous music, mainstream music education, music theory, performance and the music industry will be held at the various music venues and community centres.

Our speciality workshops include Entrepreneurship, Media Relations, Social History and Business Networking Sessions, with global practitioners Peter Toh(Canada), Koketso Sechane(SA), Caryn Dolley(SA), Patric Mellet, Waleed Abdulhamid(Canada) and others…

Our Music Coordinator

The workshops and community development program is being coordinated by George Werner who is a well known and highly respected musician and music teacher in Cape Town.

George’s passion for educating young people in multiple music genres and indigenous music from other regions, and particularly the jazz idiom, has seen him do many exchange projects with youth groups over the years from Africa, Europe and the USA.

He is currently engaged in IMAD, a project that develops and promotes indigenous music and arts and The Little Giants Big Band, started 24 years ago, from which  many of the students under his tutelage have flourished as successful musicians and educators here in SA, and around the world.
